Announcement

In August 2025, Taiwan passed major amendments to the Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals, introducing more flexible pathways for international students and graduates to stay, work, and build long-term careers in Taiwan.
Most of the amendments officially took effect on January 1, 2026, while a small number of specific provisions will take effect on June 30, 2026.

Key changes relevant to students and graduates include:

  • Two-year post-graduation stay with the right to work (no work permit required)
Students who graduate from a Taiwan university with an associate degree or higher may remain in Taiwan for up to two years after graduation by applying for an ARC extension.
Under the amended Act, graduates may seek employment, take internships, and work part-time without applying for a work permit.
  • Faster access to permanent residence for Taiwan graduates
Graduates of Taiwan universities may now receive a reduction of up to three years in the required period of residence when applying for permanent residency, representing an additional one-year deduction compared to previous regulations.
  • Other supportive amendments
Additional revisions include expanded work rights for spouses of foreign professionals, improved pension and retirement system access, and eligibility for long-term care services.
